So You Want to Be in Television News?

Ah the good old days. I’ve worked in TV news on and off since 1994 and I cannot tell you how many times I have seen someone like this come along. They love Katie Couric, they think they are perfect for your morning show and they wonder if they should be getting at least $65,000 already. OK let’s be honest, no one THIS dumb has ever come into MY office. However, at one point or another I have heard all of these little pronouncements from a self-obsessed 22 year-old college girl or guy ready to rule the world. Good luck with that. “Do I get a clothing allowance?”

My favorite line: “Before I work at the network, I would like to start in a smaller market, like San Diego or Orlando.” My sides hurt from laughing at that one.

  1. Amy Vernon says:

“Can you pick soundbites out of the camera while driving the news van in a blinding snowstorm?”

I’ve seen the one about being a newspaper journalist, and it’s similarly hilarious. Or sad. And I had reporters who were the print equivalents of the woman in this vid.
